Trio no Treble

Trio no Treble is an unconventional trio with viola, cello and double bass – a trio without treble, only dark voices and deep sound. The trio consists of Ivan Penjin (viola), Eivind Rossbach Heier (cello) and Jostein Bolås Brødreskift (double bass).

The trio was founded in 2017 and has since played a number of successful concerts in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Serbia, Hong Kong and Nepal. In Norway, they have played concerts all over the country, including as a festival trio at the Kristiansund Festival and in Mosjøen. For several years, they have collaborated with Musikk i Nordland, with great success with the concept of "pubquiz" and the slogan "big experiences in small places". Trio no Treble also has regular engagements through Den kulturellter skolesekken in Trondheim, Troms and Finnmark.

The trio has been stage musicians during productions of The Princess of Czardas at the Kristiansund Opera and the Stjørdal Opera. In December 2021 and 2022 they were on a Christmas tour together with Elisabeth "Bettan" Andreassen, Are Hembre and Trond Hustad.

In 2026, Trio no Treble released the album "La Humla Suse" together with folk musician Ronny Kjøsen. The album was published by LAWO Classics. They will also perform at the Oslo and Stavanger Chamber Music Festival , as well as playing in Finland at the festival "Kammarmusik i Skärgården".

In 2025, the trio played their own concert in Hong Kong, collaborated with Nepalese artist Rachana Dahal, toured Spain and conducted a new pub quiz tour in Nordland.

In 2023 and 2024, the trio had a stage role in Opera di Setra's production of Flåklypa – Tidenes Opera . They also played concerts with violinists Marianne Thorsen and Alex Robson, and conducted two tours to Nepal.

In 2022 , they played concerts at the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, among others.

In 2020, Trio no Treble released two albums: a classical album including Trygve Brøske's commissioned work Trio (no) Trouble , and a Christmas album. Both albums received rave reviews. The trio collaborates with a number of musicians, including Rasmus Rohde and Klaus Sonstad.

Trio no Treble has also performed on VG-lista together with Mads Hansen and has had a musical Christmas calendar on social media for several years, where Stephen Fry himself participated in one of the episodes.

The trio is known for its playful approach to classical music, folk music and vibrant interpretations of new pop music, and plays music in all genres and for all occasions. During the corona pandemic, the trio collaborated with Arve Tellefsen, among others, and was featured in the British magazine The Strad three times.

The members of Trio no Treble are versatile musicians with regular engagements with, among others, the Trondheim Soloists and the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. All have bachelor's and master's degrees from the NTNU Department of Music, as well as study stays in Germany, Switzerland and Sweden.
